Dr Paulo Garcia

Research Associate - Work Package 6 (E_WP6)

Dr Paulo Garcia is a post-doctoral Research Associate at Heriot-Watt University, UK, where his research has focused on low power computations at hardware and software levels. He has been involved in two interdisciplinary projects (Rathlin and UDRC), where he was responsible for bridging the gap between image processing and programming languages research, and contributing to sensor research.
Prior to this position, he was awarded his doctoral degree by the University of Minho, Portugal, in 2015, having performed parts of his doctoral work at the University of Wurzburg, Germany, and the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. He was awarded full funding for his doctoral degree by FCT, the Portuguese national funding agency for science, research and technology, after a successful scholarship proposal. During his PhD, he was a guest lecturer at the University of Minho. His doctoral research focused on hardware-assisted embedded virtualization: he developed new processor architectural features which increased the performance and predictability of embedded virtualization system software. His current research focuses on the design and verification of embedded systems deployed in heterogeneous multi-processors, specifically within hardware-software co-design in reconfigurable systems. He holds a MSc and BSc in Electronics and Computer Engineering from the University of Minho.
